Uncertain of life and fearful of death, the jailor at Philippi asked Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” Many today still have deep inner questions about salvation and assurance of that salvation that will see them through the troubling times in life . . . and death
Acts 16:31 – And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
All of us are sinners. Our sin separates us from God, and no sacrifice, offering, or amount of “being good” can ever make us good enough. We are dead in our sins.
No mater how many good works we do. No matter how much money we could give. No matter how many sacrifices we can make or how good we want to be, it would never be enough for us to
Romans 3:23 — for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 — For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:1 — And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
God knew we would sin, yet He chose to love us anyway. Before time even began, He planned to send His Son, Jesus, to rescue us.
Ephesians 1:4 (ESV) even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
Romans 5:8 — but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus came to earth and was born as a baby (which we celebrate at Christmas). He lived the perfect, innocent, and holy life that we could never live.
1 Peter 2:22 (ESV) He committed no sin, neither
was deceit found in his mouth.
Jesus lived the flawless, holy life we could never achieve, making Him the only qualified sinless sacrifice.
Hebrews 4:15 — For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
2 Corinthians 5:21 — For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
1 John 3:5 — You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.
Jesus went to the cross, bore the wrath of God in our place, and died the death we could never die. He was the sinless sacrifice we could never afford. He was buried and then rose from the grave by the power of God. He did all of this for you and for me.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 — For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
The call to be a Christian is a call to repentance: turn from your sins, trust in Jesus alone, and call on His name to be saved. Salvation is not earned by anything we do—it is God’s free gift received by grace through faith.
Ephesians 2:8-9 — For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 10:9 — because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:13 — For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
As you look to Jesus for Salvation it is important to connect to him.
We would love to hear from you and find a way to help you in your walk with God, to help you find a local fellowship of believers or get connected to aa local church.
